Today, the availability of wide
varieties of faucets, cabinets and sinks has made bathroom remodeling
easier. They complement perfectly with every lifestyle and have been
a great way of adding charm to any bathroom. So, if you are looking
forward to renovate it, then replacing the dated pedestal sinks with
trendier copper and stainless steel ones will be one a unique way to
give your space a fresh look.
Most of the homes now have moved from
generic white bath sinks of the past to colorful
glass vessel sinks that are available largely. They are
offered in vivid options to match any taste. Toothpaste, face
cleanser, shaving cream, hair dye, food particles, soap residue,
medicated cream and even more, are some of the products that run
down your bathroom sink every day. All these things in
and around your sink all the time accumulates germs or bacteria. So,
keeping them clean should always be high on your list of home care
duties.
- Scrub the dirty sink: With all the soap and water flowing through the sink you might be thinking that they would be perpetually clean. It's a NO. Soap residues, rust, food stains, etc. build up if you don't wash the sink in intervals. But how often you should scrub the sink that depends on its amount of usage. Scrubbing it after every 30 uses can keep it shining longer. The best would be scrubbing it with a solution of dish washing liquid added to a bowl of warm water with the help of a soft sponge or non-abrasive scrubbing pad.
- Keep the sink sparkling: If you want to bring back the shine of your white colored sink, then line the sink with paper towels and soak them with bleach. Wait until 30 minutes and then remove the towels from the sink and rinse it with running water. But don't use bleach on colored vessel sinks as this can make the color fade away. Instead, use mild liquid detergent, baking soda or vinegar.
- Protect the sink from stains and scratches: You can install a perforated plastic mat at the bottom of your sink. This will protect the sink's surface from scratches and marks. Don't use any type of scouring powders to clean the sink. Use dish detergent and warm water as mentioned above.
- De-stain sink surface with lemon juice: If you have a stained sink, then de-staining it is quite easy now. Make a paste made up of one-half cup of powdered borax and one-half lemon juice. Dip a soft sponge in the mixture, rub it and then rinse with running water. It will bring back the charm no matter if it's a sink made up of stainless steel, glass or any other materials.
- Keep the drain clog free: In order to keep your drain clog free, mix 1 cup of baking soda with ¼ cup cream of tartar and 1 cup salt. Keep it in an airtight container and then keep pouring ½ cup of that mixture down the drain every few weeks, followed by a quart of boiling water. It also keeps hair, food, soap, grease and other debris out of your sink drain.
Following the
above few steps can help you largely in the way towards keeping
your sink clean. But the most effective thing would be
wiping it daily in order to prevent the germs growing in the drainage
area. So, always keeping a sponge and a small bottle of cleaner next
to the sink would make your job easy and automatic.
